Displacements

“Travel Journals and Displacements” brings together other works within itself, an accumulation or collage of different images generated or appropriated from what I have observed, where I have traveled, as they shape an expanding body or work. As an artist, one is also a spectator, and throughout the learnings upon which you construct your world, you take fragments of what influences you, that which you admire or what you have contemplated. Western painting is part of my visual education. These great works in the History of Art brought upon a need to displace them into my reality and frame what I have observed throughout my life, extending them in time into a new cultural, geographic and social context. They are classic art works because they address that which is human, therefore their validity, permanence and my desire for empathy as I rediscover them conceptually and learn from their high level of faktura; explaining profoundly what my work is and my interests regarding human beings, time and art.

TRAVEL JOURNAL and DISPLACEMENTS

Scarlet NY

This painting is a displacement between Mty and NY through a set of video stills and photos as tools for constructing in my memory a fragment of that experience during my first trip to New York in 2004, during Halloween I walked with my Sony video camera down the street from the Radisson hotel on Lexington Ave. to the Waldorf Astoria looking at shop windows at night.

La magia del universo. Estudio Salvador Díaz

"It's just a job." This painting triggered the beginning of my painting on newspaper, by thinking directly about the source in which I built my work .
